All students of Boston Youth Moves are required to adhere to the BYM Attendance, Dress Code and Etiquette policies. Additionally, all students are expected to participate in various fundraising activities, which may include event raffles, holiday gift-wrapping and public relations events.
Full-Time Study
The level in which students are placed determines their schedule. Full-time students are required to take all classes outlined in their schedule. In addition, attendance is mandatory for all technical rehearsals and performance dates. Please check the calendar and plan well ahead to be present. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the performance in question.
Repertory class is designed to work exclusively on choreograph that is presented in performances throughout the year. Choreographers include our directors, faculty, and guest artists who are renowned professionals from the dance world. Master classes with guest artists are also held periodically throughout the year.
Part-Time Study
Once a student has been placed in an appropriate level, he or she may elect to take a single course/courses in that level. Please note that Repertory, Company Rehearsal, Level 4 Modern and Jazz Variations are not electives and are not open to part-time students. Full and part-time students take class together. Part-time students do not participate in the Repertory performances but do have a chance to perform in our annual Open House event.
ATTENDANCE, DRESS CODE, ETIQUETTE
Attendance
Strict adherence to the following attendance policy is mandatory and failure to do so may result in loss of tuition subsidy, expulsion from participation in BYM performances or expulsion from the BYM program. Exceptions may be made for extreme illnesses, family emergencies and college auditions. These require notice from a parent or legal guardian and, in some cases, a doctor. For ALL absences, a parent or legal guardian must call us at 617-523-1355 to inform us if a student is to be absent from class.
There will be no make up classes for absences or for snow/emergency closings. As closely as possible, we try to follow the holiday and snow emergency closing schedule of the Boston Public School System.
